This Cambridge home was a two family that had seen its usable life, SKA worked to lift the old home literally off of its foundation to pour a new foundation, and completely gut the interior of this home, third floor was originally very cramped and provided an unfinished attic. This project required a variance from the Cambridge zoning board and extensive preparations. The solution was to demolish the roof and raise the height to create two comfortable bedrooms and two bathrooms, along with a tv room. . The outcome is a contemporary and airy floor plan that balances a modernization of the space, with a respect for the historical typology of this style of home in west cambridge. This home should now be able to house this family and future generations for the next century, with better insulation, windows, and systems that no longer depend on oil as the main heating source. also this house incorporated drywalls on the site to manage rainwater that comes down the downspouts from increased intensity in rainstorms.
